Using a three-tiered FBA model to support students, teachers, and families
Functional behavior assessments (FBA) provide insight into the maintaining function of a student’s problem behavior. The full FBA process is intensive and is best reserved for student’s requiring highly individualized Tier III supports. By utilizing a function-based approach before students require Tier III supports, schools can more effectively match interventions to student needs in Tiers I and II. The three-tiered FBA model provides schools with efficient methods for assessing student needs within and across Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III systems.
