Supporting Gender Diversity
In the fall of 2015, the state of Oregon passed guidelines for supporting students who identify as transgender, non-binary, and other categories of diversity. This session focuses on best practices for supporting these students, and also outlines detours and obstacles that interfere with effective support. School District 4J’s data shows slow but steady progress. We have come a long way, but many of our schools remain unsafe for students who are “out” as transgender. Strategies for continued support are proposed, and participants will offer collective solutions as we move forward.
